Cholesterol and General Health
The more saturated fats an individual eats, the more cholesterol his body generates. Cholesterol is a fat-like matter that forms a part of each cell in your body. An individual’s body requires cholesterol for every day operations, such as making hormones, producing healthy cell walls and making vitamin D. It also generates bile acids that assist in the digestion of fat.
Though this waxy substance assists your body in numerous ways, excessive production of cholesterol can also be damaging to your body. When this occurs, the additional cholesterol spills out and circulates into your bloodstream. Be careful that high levels of cholesterol in a person’s blood can produce clogging of blood vessels, while increasing the chances of stroke and heart disease.
Cholesterol is generated from animal-based food like dairy products, eggs and meat. The two kinds of cholesterol are low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is the awful cholesterol that generally causes the clogging of blood vessels, while HDL is the good cholesterol that is liable for clearing LDL out of your bloodstream, reducing the risks of heart disease.
Saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are three kinds of fats present in food. Each sort of dietary fat affects an individual’s blood cholesterol in special ways. For example, saturated fats are those present in lamb, pork, beef and other red meat products. Too much saturated fat in the body can be dangerous to your health.
Monounsaturated fats are those present in pant oils, such as canola, peanut and olive. Polyunsaturated fats, such as omega-3 fat, can facilitate in slowing down blood clots and fight heart ailment. They are found in fishes and plant oils, such as soybean, corn, safflower and sunflower.
